On days when I read a blog like yours I admit to being a little quieter when I admit I am American. So wonderfully and articulately (sp?) worded.
I would only say one thing before going back to my corner. Please remember that for the most part the U.S. president is merely a front man .. a P.R. person per se. So while I understand it more…

They'll never bomb Iran John, because the price of crude, and therefore petrol at the pumps, would rocket - Iran being the second largest supplier in the region. If there's one thing that would make Bush and Olmert take their fingers off the tactical nuclear trigger, it's unpopularity with the voters back home.
Yes they are, actually, more…

Does anyone see the UN as relevant? it has been misused since the day it opened by the superpowers and the non aligned nations. Israel is just one of the more prominent ignorers of UN resolutions. There are not many states with clean hands. more…

The one thing you should learn is that diplomacy isn't rational. Declaring the kind of unfinished ceasefire the UN has produced will just create the conditions for more fighting and more dead civilians.
We have a situation where the UN is being asked to commit forces to southern Lebanon to support the Lebanese army encourage Hisboll more…

Funny, I thought it might be Israel who sees the UN as an irrelevance, with its complete disregard of 26 ( Twenty six ) UN resolutions during its existence; requiring either its cessation of hostilities or withdrawal from occupied Palestinian/Lebanese land. more…

I was in Rhodesia at the time of the elections that were used by, coincidentally a Labour Prime Minister, to teach the citizens of Rhodesia a lesson and impose a Marxist regime on them.

The British Sugar industry is about to lose much of its current subsidies. As a result producing bio fuel now looks very attractive to them. I have no doubt that they will be pursuing the fuel market very aggressively in the next five years. As will other european Sugar producers. maybe Adam Smith was right about the 'invisible hand'. more…

A brand new energy idea. The huge sugar industry could be diverted to produce bio fuel for cars and power stations instead of poisoning people with unnecessary "food" which leads to coronary disease, obesity and dental destruction.
This would be the test of Tate & Lyle's dedication to saving the planet and, I suspect, one they woul more…

I suppose John, that even if a brand new idea for a process that would result in cheap, clean bio fuels in commercial quantities did actualize; the big oil corps would find a way to either block it or shelve it.
Maybe there is already a way for abundant cheap energy, but it's been buried.

The problem with renewables John, as we have discussed before, is that none of them nor even any combination of them is EVER going to produce the constant, stable electricity supply that the national grid absolutely requires for power cut-free distribution.
