Reading the latest Diana fantasy penned by one of the dead Princess' alleged confidants I was struck by how convenient this liasion would be. If only they had produced a child, preferably a son. Just imagine the Arthurian potential, the son of the People's princess and the Crown Prince of America's Camelot. The boy would be pulling swords out the stone before he was out of nappies!

Fortunately for the sane among us things like this do not happen. However the fact that Elvis now sells more records that he did in his youth would indicate that legends and myths are just as powerful today as they were a thousand years ago. Sport is particularly afflicted by myth-making with the likes of George Best, Pele, Bjorn Borg frequently ascribed superhuman qualities. The youth of today would be forgiven for believing that these men were some kind of gods, as no-one ever seem to remember their mistakes or off days.

I hope that some balance enters the crossroads between reality and fantasy in the celebrity world soon or my grand-children will grow up praying to statuettes of Elvis, Diana and JFK the godheads for the 21st century.
